The thoracic surgery (lung surgery) focuses on the surgical treatment of lung cancer (bronchial carcinoma). All surgical procedures, including tissue-sparing surgery in patients with impaired lung function are performed. The surgical removal of lung metastases using a laser is part of the spectrum as well as the treatment of mediastinal tumors, chest wall tumors or benign lung diseases.
Interventions at the chest wall to a complete removal of the sternum, for example, in advanced lung cancer or breast cancer can help the patient retaining a good quality of life.
The videothoracoscopy (known as keyhole surgery) is routinely applied for diagnosis of lung nodules, hyperhidrosis or mediastinal tumors, which can often avoid a painful opening of the chest.
The thoracic surgery (lung surgery) includes the following operations
- lung cancer and lung metastases, even with the neodymium-YAG laser
- tumors of the chest wall
- mediastinal tumors
- pleura tumors (pleuracarzinosis and pleuramesotheliome) belong to our specialties
- minimally invasive video assisted thoracoscopic techniques (keyhole surgery) are routinely used in the treatment of benign lung and pleura diseases (e.g. pneumothorax, emphysema), and in the diagnosis of malignant tumors
