In the Department of Surgery and Thoracic Surgery of
DRK Kliniken Berlin | Mitte special emphasis is put on tissue-sparing surgical techniques such as bronchoplastic surgeries and so-called sleeve resections.
It is often possible to avoid the removal of an entire lung lobe and thus to obtain a higher load capacity and improved lung function in patients. This means a better quality of life. An in 2006 newly refurbished, modern intensive care unit offers the necessary security for the first few days after surgery.
In the Department of Surgery and Thoracic Surgery each year approximately 1,600 operations are performed in 3 operating theatres. Here the new Nd: YAG laser is available, especially developed for lung surgeries. The Laser allows the thoracic surgeon to cut clear through the lung tissue, safely removing metastases and tumors. Thus the prognosis of our patients can be further improved.
