The DRK Kliniken Berlin committed themselves early to the principle of continuous quality improvement. In addition to the membership of the EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) the company received in 2002 the prestigious Quality Certificate of the Joint Commission International (JCI) from the US. It was the first time in Germany that a hospital group received this certificate.
The tasks of the practical implementation and development of quality in the company are taken care of by designated quality coordinators. They do regular monitoring (internal audits) to ensure permanent compliance with JCI standards and to prepare for recertification. Furthermore, these quality coordinators support and working groups, who conduct various quality projects in the company, and accompany all certification processes of our individual clinics. They also prepare conceptual decisions on the quality polici.
Joint Commission International
The group has been accredited by the highly acclaimed Joint Commission International (JCI) of the USA for meeting their quality standards in health care in 2002. This was the first time that a hospital group in Germany had ever been awarded accreditation from the Joint Commission.
Quality Management
The DRK Kliniken Berlin committed themselves early on to the continual improvement of quality. This was the first time that a hospital group in Germany had ever been awarded accreditation from the Joint Commission.
The practical implementation and further quality enhancements within the hospital group are administered by the Quality Management department. This department conducts regular surveillance audits to ensure that the JCI standards are always met.
The group's hospitals are continually investing in technical equipment. Just as in the Radiation Center that was opened in 2007, digital operating rooms and the latest technologies are standard. But they also allow for the latest developments in medicine and patient care services by providing staff with the relevant training and continuous education.
The DRK Kliniken Berlin implemented a hospital-wide infection control program and are participating in two other public programs (KISS and SARI).
The hospitals of the DRK Kliniken Berlin are all academic teaching hospitals of the university hospital Charitè in Berlin.
Committed staff members and visionary management pursue a multitude of projects that are all oriented towards excellent performance. And through certifications from nationally and internationally highly regarded associations, the key areas within each department gain recognition that reach beyond this country's borders.
Accreditation of Specialized Center
- 2 Centers for Breast Diseases
- In 2004 the DRK Kliniken Berlin | Köpenick was accredited our first Center for Breast Diseases by OnkoCert, which applies stringent and challenging criteria recognized by the German Society for Senology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Senologie) and by German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft).
- In 2006 the DRK Kliniken Berlin | Westend was accredited as our second Center for Breast Diseases by OnkoCert.
- 2 Centers for Vascular Diseases
- In April 2004 the DRK Kliniken Berlin | Mitte was accredited our first Center for Vascular Diseases by the German Society of Vascular Surgery (Deutschen Gesellschaft für Gefäßchirurgie (DGG)).
- 1 Center for Bowel Diseases
- Since 2007 the Center for Bowel Diseases at the DRK Kliniken Berlin | Köpenick is accredited by the German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft e.V.).
- Our sleep laboratory has been accredited as the first sleep laboratory in Berlin by the German society for Sleep research and Sleep Medicine.
